The main tasks of Clinical Residency are the deepening of professional knowledge and the improvement of practical skills, the development of advanced medical technologies, as well as solving the problems of staffing the healthcare sector.

Specialist doctors and persons who have received higher medical education outside the Republic of Belarus which is confirmed by the valid document (documents) on education, may apply for Clinical Residency.

The list of specialties for which training in clinical residency is carried out is determined by the nomenclature of positions of medical, pharmaceutical workers, approved by Resolution of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus No. 61 dated 05/27/2021.

Training in Clinical Residency is carried out in full-time and part-time forms at the expense of the republican budget and on a paid basis.

The terms of training in Clinical Residency are:

  • 2 years for full-time training;

  • 3 years for part-time training.

The training in Clinical Residency of foreign citizens (at their request) can be extended for up to 5 years.

The procedure of admission and training in Clinical Residency, final certification and distribution of clinical residents are defined by the Instruction on the Procedure for Organizing and Undergoing Training in Clinical Residency, approved by the Order of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus dated 03.09.2021 No. 1055.

Training in clinical residency is carried out at state educational institutions:

Belarusian Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education
Belarusian State Medical University
Vitebsk State Medical University
Gomel State Medical University
Grodno State Medical University,

as well as at state institutions:

Republican Scientific and Practical Center of Otorhinolaryngology
Republican Scientific and Practical Center "Mother and Child"
Republican Scientific and Practical Center of Oncology and Medical Radiology named after N.N. Alexandrov
Republican Scientific and Practical Center for Mental Health
Republican Scientific and Practical Center "Cardiology"
Republican Scientific and Practical Center for Radiation Medicine and Human Ecology
Republican Scientific and Practical Center of Traumatology and Orthopedics
Republican Scientific and Practical Center of Neurology and Neurosurgery
Republican Scientific and Practical Center for Medical Expertise and Rehabilitation
Republican Scientific and Practical Center for Transfusiology and Medical Biotechnologies

The content of training in Clinical Residency is determined by the plans and programs for each specialty of Clinical Residency.

After completing training in Clinical Residency and passing the qualification exam, a specialist doctor is issued a certificate of completion of training in Clinical Residency, foreign citizens are issued a certificate of specialized training in medicine (Clinical Residency).
