Foreign citizens without the necessary command of the Russian language or those who intend to be better prepared for the entrance examinations can study at first at the Preparatory Departments of the Faculties for Foreign Students. Here they study the necessary subjects to enter the University (Russian, biology, chemistry, mathematics and physics).

If the preparatory course examinations are passed successfully, foreign citizens are admitted to the University in accordance with the chosen field of studies.

Graduates from the University get a diploma of a physician and a degree of a Doctor of Medicine. Then graduates undergo a one-year qualification apprenticeship: they work as doctors-probationers under the supervision of the skilled doctors.

Post-graduate training of Belarusian and foreign specialists with higher medical education (clinical residency, post-graduate courses) is conducted at all medical universities of the Republic as well as at the Belarusian Medical Academy of Post-Graduate Education.

The period of the course at clinical residency is 2-4 years. Training at clinical residency is conducted according to the individual plan. During the course of studies a resident fulfills all practical duties of a doctor or pharmacist under the supervision of senior colleagues. Practical skills are mastered through the rotation at different departments. Besides twice a month a resident is on duty at hospital. His/her functions also include everyday rounds, examinations, compiling medical histories, participation in surgical operations and conferences. This helps the resident to become familiar with the work of the health care institutions.

At the end of each academic year a clinical resident gives a report on the fulfillment of the individual plan and passes attestation.

After training at clinical residency a specialist takes an examination which consists of theoretical and practical questions and gets a Certificate on graduating from clinical residency.

Then a resident can continue education in the post-graduate course (3-4 years). There is a wide spectrum of clinical specialities (internal diseases and surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, psychiatry, dermatovenerology, ophthalmology, oto(rhino)laryngology, human pathology, radiotherapy, etc) and theoretical ones.

Many specialists devote themselves to research work which is conducted on an individual or team basis by researchers of different faculties of the university.

Every year a post-graduate student passes attestation and on graduating from a post-graduate course he/she defends a thesis.

All overseas students are provided with comfortable hostels. All conditions for education are created at medical educational institutions of Belarus. Rooms and laboratories are equipped in accordance with up-to-date achievements of medical science. Libraries, computer-and-Internet classes are available for students. Great attention is paid to the recreation of the students. There are assembly halls and gymnasiums, specialized circles and amateur circles as well as sport-clubs here.

Foreign citizens can be admitted to study in the Republic of Belarus in accordance with international agreements between the higher educational institutions and foreign citizens or their representatives on terms of compensation of costs for education (unless otherwise agreed upon through international agreements with the Republic of Belarus).

The cost of education is fixed annually, depends on the chosen speciality and includes all expenditures for education (lectures, practical studies, examinations, ect.). It is paid in USD for each year at the beginning of the academic year. Costs for hostel, medical insurance, registration fees are not included in the cost of education.

Medical care, provided for foreign citizens, is subject to conditions of compulsory medical insurance, unless otherwise agreed upon through international agreements of the Republic of Belarus
