(222) 32 23 42Belarus and Myanmar: Healthcare Cooperation at a Strategic Level
On August 20, 2026, Belarusian State Medical University hosted bilateral talks on developing cooperation in healthcare, pharmaceuticals and medical education.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Health of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Khodzhaev, Rector of BSMU Sergei Rubnikovich, Director General of the managing company of the Belpharmprom holding Yuri Pokhodnya, and members of the official delegation of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar led by Union Minister for Health Dr. Thet Khaing Win.
Key outcome: the parties decided to move from traditional export–import relations to in-depth industrial cooperation, including the establishment of joint pharmaceutical production and the launch of continuing medical education programs.
Pharmaceuticals: Proven in Practice
Belarusian medicines have already successfully passed certification and received 12 registration certificates in Myanmar. Belarusian oncology, antiviral and antibacterial drugs are being supplied to the country's pharmacy and hospital network.
Equipment: Reliability in Action
The first major deliveries of advanced medical equipment have been made to Myanmar: 5 fully equipped ambulances and a modern computed tomography scanner.
“We are fully satisfied with the Belarusian ambulances we have received. They have proven reliable and highly functional in our conditions. We also consider Belarusian medicines to be of very high quality and effective. That is why Myanmar is now strongly interested not just in purchasing, but in localizing the production of your medicines in our country,” emphasized Dr. Thet Khaing Win.
Belarus Guarantees Support
“Belarus is ready to expand cooperation with Myanmar in all areas of healthcare. We understand how important the uninterrupted operation of sophisticated medical equipment is, so we are making firm commitments: our side is ready to provide full technical support and maintenance for all the medical equipment supplied, on a continuous basis,” said Alexander Khodzhaev.
Education as the Foundation for the Future
Personnel training received particular impetus. Dr. Thet Khaing Win, who previously headed the University of Medicine 1, Yangon, put forward specific proposals for bringing the two countries' education systems closer together. The participants discussed in detail training and professional development for practicing doctors from Myanmar at BSMU, as well as expanding short-term student exchanges of up to 3 months so that future doctors can quickly adopt the best practices of the Belarusian school of medicine.
Practice Is the Best Argument
After the official meeting, the guests visited the BSMU Simulation and Certification Center for Higher Education, the Republican Scientific and Practical Center "Cardiology" and the Republican Center for Professional Certification and Simulation Training of Medical and Pharmaceutical Workers.
The agreements reached will provide a solid foundation for deepening and expanding cooperation between Belarus and Myanmar in the near term. Ahead lies extensive joint work for the sake of people's health.
